Overall rating: DNF
What I Liked
I liked the Viking-inspired world and was intrigued to read how Jensen would spin her new series within this world. Unfortunately, I was unable to finish this book.
What I Didn’t Like
As much as I typically love Jensen's work, this one is less fantasy and more explicit romance than I bargained for. It was more than I preferred, so I DNF'd 100 pages in. The Viking-inspired fantasy world was beautiful, and the mythical elements were intriguing, but they took a backseat to the budding lustfest between Freya and Bjorn. I was disappointed in this, as I was looking forward to a new series by Jensen.

Writing Style
This book is more adult than Jensen’s previous books. By more adult, I mean more erotic, graphic, and violent. It is written from Freya’s first-person perspective as she navigates life within an oppressive tribal system.
Tropes
- Arranged political marriage
- Hidden powers
- Forbidden love
